மூன்று மீனவர்கள்

மூன்று மீனவர்கள் கடலுக்கு போனார்கள், மேற்கு நோக்கி
மேற்கு நோக்கி போனார்கள் ,சூரியன் மறையும் நேரம்
தன்னை மிக நேசித்தவளை தத்தம் நினைவில் நிறுத்தி
ஊர் தாண்டும் வரை சிறுவர்களும் பார்த்து நின்றார்கள்
ஏனெனில், ஆண்கள் உழைக்க வேண்டும்,

பெண்கள் அழ வேண்டும்
ஈட்டிட சொற்பமே ஆனால் காத்திட அநேகர்
அழிவாய் முனங்கிக் கொண்டிருந்தாலும்


மூன்று மனைவிகள் பார்த்திருந்தார்கள் ,கலங்கரை விளக்கத்தில்
,சூரியன் குறைய தங்கள் விளக்குகள் தூண்டி
மழைபொழிவை பார்த்தார்கள், வரும் புயலைப் பார்த்தார்கள்
இரவுப்புயல் ,கரடுமுரடாய், புழுதியாய் உருண்டு வந்தது.
ஆனால் ஆண்கள் உழைக்க வேண்டும், பெண்கள் அழ வேண்டும்
புயல்கள் அறிவிப்பற்றதாக இருந்தாலும் நீர் ஆழமாகவும்
அழிவாயும் முனங்கிக் கொண்டிருந்தாலும்

மூன்று பிணங்கள் ஒளிரும் மணல்மேல் கிடந்தன
காலைச் சுடரில் அலைகள் வடியும் போது
கைபிசைந்து பெண்கள் கதறி அழுகிறார்கள்
இனி வீடு வாராது போனவர்களுக்காக
ஏனெனில் ஆண்கள் உழைக்க வேண்டும்,

பெண்கள் அழ வேண்டும்
விரைவில் முடிந்தால் விரைந்து உறங்கலாம்
பிரியாவிடை அழிவாய்க்கும்,

அதன் முனகலுக்கும்


The Three Fishers

THREE fishers went sailing away to the West,
Away to the West as the sun went down;
Each thought on the woman who loved him the best;
And the children stood watching them out of the town;

Three wives sat up in the lighthouse tower,

But men must work, and women must weep,
Though storms be sudden, and waters deep,
And the harbor bar be moaning.

Three corpses lay out on the shining sands
In the morning gleam as the tide went down,
And the women are weeping and wringing their hands
For those who will never come home to the town;
For men must work, and women must weep,
And the sooner it's over, the sooner to sleep;
And good-by to the bar and its moaning.
